About

Kindred Films is an award-winning production company founded by Megan Jones in 2019 to tell compelling real-life stories with social impact.

Its first production, the feature Six Angry Women, has screened in festivals around the world, including the prestigious Santa Barbara International Film Festival. It won Best Documentary at MujerDOC and Cinema d’iDEA and the audience award for Best Documentary at the Cannes Independent Film Festival.

This was followed by the acclaimed documentary No Māori Allowed which revealed New Zealand’s suppressed history of racial segregation. It led to real world changes in the town of Pukekohe where the story was based, and won Best Documentary at the 2023 NZ Film and TV Awards, the Grand Prix du Jury at the Fifo International Documentary Festival, and the Pacifika Award for Best Feature Film at the Hawai’i International Film Festival.

The documentary Manufacturing Chaos dived into the world of disinformation. This was followed by the original six part series Food Rescue Kitchen where top chefs are challenged to make three course meals out of rescued food, shining a light on the local and global issue of food waste.
